In honor of International women’s day, we have drawn up a list of 7 women we’re greatly impressed by. These women have not only made strides but have been able to impact their communities in positive light. Have a read below.
TY BELLO
TY Bello is a Nigerian based photographer who tells tales through the lens of her camera. She has also played the role of a fairy god mother who changed the narrative of a bread hawker with just a click of her camera. Recently, she became an Ambassador for Canon and it’s such a delight to see that Africa is seen in a different light through the works of one woman who is so dedicated to her work. Through her dedication and commitment to photography she has not only pressed for progress for herself but she has for the youth and generations yet to come with just a click of the camera.
SAMKE MHLONGO
Samke is a millennial with a difference, she is one of the leading wealth coaches in South Africa, also, she is one of the youngest board members on a state-owned mineral technology research council (MINEK). Miss Mhlongo is the founder of The Next Chapter (TNC) Wealth Partners, a platform that coaches individuals on how to turn their money into wealth. Walking her way to financial liberation was definitely not an easy one from trying to find her way through a divorce to the loss of her dad, Samke, has managed to will become a trailblazer against all odds and has done so with style and classs.
SINIKIWE KADEMUNGA:
Sinikiwe is a Zimbabwean Blogger, who sees ability in her disability, this 24 year old woman has pressed for progress and she continues to break barriers. Two years back she won the Courage award for the Zimbabwe International Women’s Award (ZIWA). Sinikiwe continues to inspire as she shares her life journey through her blog ‘Life in the Shoes of a short girl’ encouraging young Africans to feel more confident with their body. She radiates positivity with her bright smile.
AFUA OSEI
Afua is a Ghanian based in Lagos, Nigeria. A co-founder of She Leads Africa; she successfully created a platform which seeks to encourage young women across Africa. The platform has provided African women across several countries with an opportunity to create and share entrepreneurial ideas while giving support to one another. Afua has worked in the office of the First Lady Michelle Obama and also at Mckinsey & Company as a Management Consultant. She was recently listed among women to look up to by Forbes Africa.
NONKULULEKO NYEMBEZI
Nyembezi is an exquisite South African woman whose life simply inspires, she is the first female to chair Alexander Forbes in 82 years. She joined the company at a time they were planning their strategic and business transformation in the implementation of its 2022 growth strategy to create a globally pan-African financial services global leader. Nyembezi has pressed for progress through her dedication, hardworking and commitment, She is currently the chairperson of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and non-executive director of Old Mutual. Not only that, she is the chief executive of Ichor Coal, an international mining company operating in the thermal coal industry in South Africa.
PEACE HYDE
Peace is a British-Ghanian Media Entrepreneur. She was promoted from her role as West Africa Correspondent for Forbes Africa and Forbes Woman Africa to Head of Digital, Forbes Africa through sheer hardwork and dilligence. She is also the founder of a non-profit organisation, Aim Higher Africa , an organisation which focuses solely on educating the next generation of entrepreneurs in Africa, their goal is empower a generation of young leaders through the power of education and education to build a sustainable business in order to create jobs and transform impoverished communities.
OGADINMA MGBAJAH
Ogadinma is a Nigeria-based woman who is the first female Cardiothoracic surgeon in West Africa. Ogadinma had pressed for progress even before she realised it, her passion to help people with heart related diseases led her to become an open heart surgeon. Ogadinma practices at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital and she inspires young women to press for progress doing it one open heart surgery at a time.
These women continue to inspire us in their various walks of life. Their stories are worth being celebrated and we’re happy to be the sharing party.
